Laura Fernández Resta holds a master’s degree in architecture from the Pontifical University of Salamanca (UPSA) in Madrid. As part of her studies, she spent a year as an exchange student at the Polytechnic University of Milan (Polimi). After graduating, she gained 8 years of professional experience in architecture and construction firms in Madrid, Karlsruhe, and Braunschweig, specializing in building information management (BIM)-based planning and construction processes. In 2022, Laura joined HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) as a research associate, contributing to projects focusing on BIM integration. These include ‘0-CO2-WSHH’, a project dedicated to the climate-neutral preservation of Hamburg’s UNESCO-listed Speicherstadt, and ‘CircleBIM’, an Interreg North Sea Region Programme project that aims to develop and implement circular economy strategies to transform public sector construction practices across the North Sea region. Laura is currently pursuing her PhD at HCU and is an associate member of the DFG research training group ‘Urban future-making’. Her research focuses on the potential of heritage BIM (HBIM) to improve decision-making in sustainable heritage conservation.
