Bastian Manteuffel studied geography at the University of Münster and European ethnology at Humboldt University of Berlin. He is interested in the knowledge politics of and ways of knowing co-produced by (digital) technologies and infrastructures in the field of urbanism. His MA thesis was concerned with digital urbanism as a particular problematization treating urban problems in terms of information and was awarded with the Georg Simmel Prize. Previously a research associate at a non-profit association for municipal research, he is currently in the Department of Political Science at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, working on a research project about the digitalization of municipal administrations. His PhD project examines both the politics and the infrastructural work involved in national efforts toward a digital state, as well as the problematizations of bureaucracy that accompany it.
