Halle-Neustadt als Prisma der Transformation? Paradigmen und Realitäten der Transformationsgesellschaft, wohn_komplex, Bauverein Halle & Leuna eG, Halle, 13 September 2024

The presentation (in German) offered a nuanced perspective on the promises for the future associated with large-scale green transition projects in Eastern Germany. Drawing on empirical research in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, it demonstrated how transnational companies, through their investments, profoundly transform regions in Eastern Germany while, at the same time, reinforcing path dependencies and dynamics of peripheralization. Furthermore, the presentation outlined specific planning and policy approaches that counteract these dynamics, enabling green transition projects to be implemented in a socially and ecologically just manner. The symposium focused on the history, present, and future of Halle-Neustadt to also address urgent questions of transformation in (Eastern) Germany.
