Mass timber metropolis: Navigating uncertainties around wood in construction
‘Moving Architectures’ elective block seminar 2025–2026 with Lecturer Dr. Ksenia Litvinenko, Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU), Bauhaus University Weimar, 18 November 2025
This talk given to students of architecture, anthropology, and media studies of the Bauhaus University Weimar gives an overview of the transition to urban timber construction as one of the key solutions to mitigate construction’s impact on climate change. The presentation highlights the uncertainties and tensions of this transition as relating to the struggling sourcing landscapes of timber, and particularly the sourcing of Norway spruce in Germany.
