Heritage ownership workshop
Bazar Abbas Project – Stakeholders’ workshop, Port Said, Egypt, 21–30 September 2025
The main objective of this stakeholders’ workshop was to address the contested ownership issues around Bazar Abbas, which pose potential obstacles to rehabilitation and restoration efforts of the site. To effectively tackle these challenges, it was essential to first establish a common foundation among all stakeholders. The workshop had three focal points:
Presentation of the rehabilitation proposal, to prepare all stakeholders for the upcoming changes and gather their initial feedback.
Introduction of new tenure regulations, to provide an overview of the revised tenure law, adopted by the government in August 2025.
Ownership and tenancy documentation, to initiate the documentation process for current ownership and rental agreements and offer legal consultations to clarify rights and responsibilities.
