Greener, denser, and socially liveable? Towards socio-physical liveability in low-income mass housing in India

The Master of Science Degree Programme REAP – Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning, HafenCity University Hamburg, 25 May 2023 and 20 June 2024

This one-day seminar focused on pathways in which the material components of cities contribute to sustainable urbanism. In the invited talk held in 2023, I elaborated on the need to systematically analyse the social aspects of green spaces within mass housing projects.

The 2024 talk set out the methodology and empirical findings of my PhD project. It outlined the spatial opportunities and barriers arising from the material components of standardized concrete construction, which can serve as spaces for bottom-up greening actions initiated by the building inhabitants.
